THE UNION KARATE DO MISSION

UNION KARATE DO is a family run club that was founded on the 25th July 2018 and incorporates a blend of traditional Japanese styles of Karate incorporated in the modern world of martial arts. The founding principles of Union Karate Do are……..

  • RESILLIENCE
  • EQUALITY
  • SELF-CONFIDENCE
  • PERSEVERANCE
  • EXCELLENCE
  • COURAGE
  • TEAMWORK

The organisation is governed by by the British Martial Art & Boxing Association (BMABA) which regulates instruction to all of our clubs registered junior leaders, coaches and instructors.

We aim to provide an exciting and productive environment for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy physical, mental and spiritual benefits of practising martial arts. We are a group from various backgrounds whom practice together to develop our skills in both Traditional Karate and more modern competition based Sport Karate. We offer everyone the opportunity to train for their own personal development also a facility to compete individually or as a member of our squad.

We offer a comprehensive and progressive system for juniors to help them along their “Martial Arts Journey“. We then help them progress through their teenage years and continue to develop as young adults. When the time comes, they are given the opportunity to train with our seniors both young and not so young within a regulated environment to develop themselves further as part of our “KARATE FAMILY“.

From January 2020 UNION KARATE DO were invited by a prominent Sensei to continue the development of pupils within “Braunton Karate Club“, founded in 1988 incorporating “Chivenor Karate Club” upon his retirement from running martial arts schools.

We have many families training with us and seek to continue the clubs legacy for further generation.

We also have our charity ACTIVE MARTIAL ARTS FOUNDATION that uses martial arts to tackle social inequality, with specific programmes tackling, childhood and family poverty, bullying and inclusion to all abilities.

We work in conjunction with several partners to keep a high standard run martial arts school and to  help our community, these include North Devon Council, BMABA, Active Martial Art North Devon CIC, Safer Streets Programme, Club Colours, Devon Libraries and Sport England.

PEACE OF MIND FOR PARENTS

Devon club, Union Karate Do, is leading the charge in sports safeguarding, having successfully attained the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts “mark” and have also achieved the Club Colours Award through the BMABA.

Achieving the Safeguarding Code, demonstrates Union Karate Do’s commitment to upholding its duty-of-care to the community and young people and recognises Union Karate Do as a martial arts provider that has reached and effectively maintained good safeguarding standards. The Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts has been created so that parents and carers can clearly identify a martial arts provider that have demonstrated that they have reached and maintained good safeguarding standards and can make informed decisions when selecting a club for their child.

Sue Harrison, Stakeholder Marketing at the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts said:

“We are delighted to see that so many clubs, including Union Karate Do, have successfully attained the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts.

“When making choices about martial arts schools, parents and carers can easily determine, and be reassured that clubs in their local area are committed to safeguarding and upholding safe practices for their children if they display the Safeguarding Code ‘mark’.”

Developed in consultation with Sport England, representatives from martial arts governing bodies, and leading safeguarding experts, the Code is funded by the National Lottery and was launched by the Sports Minister in 2018. To date, over 1722 clubs have now attained the Code and these can be viewed via an interactive map Clubs that have attained The Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts in England

Support is also provided by the Child Protection in Sport Unit, the Ann Craft Trust and NWG Network. It is funded by the National Lottery and was launched by the Sports Minister in early 2018.
